Have you ever wondered why the Buddha may be lying down in one statue, but standing in another? Do they actually mean anything? Well yes they do!
Statues of the Buddha are often shown in three general positions
- Lying Down
But why? Here’s what they mean:
- Standing: Symbolizes his active nature where he was teaching the Dharma
- Sitting: Symbolizes meditate concentration (and peace)
- Lying Down: Also known as his “reclining” position, symbolizes Nirvana
